I was born of goodly parents

When we were in high school, many students rode the bus from L.A. to attend Birmingham High. On Fridays we got out at 1, so the football players and band members were not able to get all the way home and then back for the games. Our parents encouraged us to invite some kids over to our house for lunch, relaxing and fun. What started as a small group grew to quite a few during the football season. Some have kept in touch over those 30 years.

On November 5, as I contemplated the events of the night before, I wrote to one dear friend and asked if he could have imagined this 30 years ago. This was the response from Antoine, shown here on a visit with Robert's family a few years back.
"It's people like your family who made this possible. People who don't prejudge others but take an active role in helping mankind regardless of race or socio-economic status. Thank you and your family for all you have done for me in my life in showing the true side of humanity.

It was 30 years ago today!

Super Bowl XIII—the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Dallas Cowboys.
Robert found the International paper somewhere in France.
Good thing he was wearing that Steelers hat or he might have been injured!
Here is Robert (Stripling Warrior) with his Bruce Springsteen shirt. Now 30 years later, the Steelers are heading back to the Super Bowl, with Bruce Springsteen playing at halftime. The dogs on Main Street howl because they understand.

I have a dream...

...that our storage unit by the side of our house would be gone after 6 months!
Here it sits.
Here comes the crazy contraption to take it away.
Here's the driver maneuvering it around in the driveway with a large remote control. Boys who like remote control cars have a future vocation when they grow up!
The pod is raised high in the air to fit the truck underneath.
Ready, set . . .
Gone! We have our R.V. parking back. Maybe one day we'll have an R.V. For now, you will always have a parking space when you come to visit!

Earthquake at 4:31 a.m. Can't believe it's been 15 years.

Every drawer opened and every cupboard emptied.
The glass pans traveled quite a distance across the kitchen.
It doesn't show, but the refrigerator opened and that's orange juice and assorted other treats mixed in with our dishes.
The reports were that there were two strong jolts. We felt three. We soon realized that the third jolt was the freeway crashing at the end of our street.
This was my doctor's office. I decided to wait until they relocated before my next appointment. Robyn was brave enough to pose for the photo.
Thanks for the wedding gifts everyone. Here is our China and Waterford Crystal. Or, what's left of it.
The parking structure at Cal State University Northridge. There is nothing wrong with the photo. The force of the earthquake made it bend that way.

Happy 50th Birthday

Brynolf "The Legend" Ronndahl turns 50 today. I met him a few times as a missionary, but we have had the opportunity to get better acquainted with him in the last few years. My Swedish flag is flying at my home today to honor this great man, Bishop Ronndahl.

With Kristina on Tom Sawyer's Island at Disneyland in 2008.
With a few of his kids in Sweden in 2008.
Yes, he can still balance a bike on his chin after all these years!
With President and Sister Holmgren in 2007.

Patton's Rockin' New Year's Eve

All my dreams came true. A family reunion with the arrival of Chuck and Sumner. Not sure where the other family members were. It's been a great New Year's Eve.
Well, until we had a slight waffle problem. No comment!
